18A – Create a Customer Avatar

My customer avatar are three different types of people: large corporations, government, and the middle/upper class family structure. For the sake of this assignment and the knowledge I have gathered I am going to focus more on the family structure.

First is large corporations. Though I have not been able to interview this segment I know it could be a very likely segment because Bank of America has already engaged in sustainable architecture, and in my business I want to provide a service that has more sustainable features.

My second segment is government buildings. I know they have the money to invest in sustainable buildings, and also engaging in my service they would reap from more positive outlooks on their decisions. Climate change should be extremely important for the government.
My last segment is more well-off families who have an interest in sustainability. I might even be able to target families that do not have an immense interest in sustainability, if I can market my idea that will include more sustainable features for a more normal price.

I imagine the parents recycle and they are trying to teach their kids the same. I imagine both parents also like going outside for hikes, to build something, to paint, etc. I imagine the mom does yoga, and buys at Whole Foods (where I can distribute my flyers). Since they like constructing things (buy materials at Home Depot, more flyers!) they would be interested in having at least a minor sustainable architecture project for their house (or if they don’t have a house, they would engage in the full project). They are middle class, but are very aware of their surroundings and politics and the news. The mom drives an eco-friendly car.

My second target could be well off grandparents that might want to move to another house after their kids left home, or that might want to engage in a partial sustainable architecture in their home. They could garden together meaning they care about the planet (or at least a large portion of them will). They could also drive a nice car, meaning they have the means to invest in sustainable architecture.

My third target are newly weds. I assume they live in an apartment, and as they start wanting to create a family they will look into moving into a home. So I will target them to wanting to create a new home with my sustainable architecture.

What do you have in common with the customer avatar?
So far I have some things in common with my customer avatar. The only difference is that right now I am not able to sustain my own product. That is why I did not include students or recent grads as my customer avatar. I also naturally enjoy sustainability.

Do you think that is a coincidence? Why?
I don’t think it’s a coincidence because the reason I am investing in this product is because I feel like it’s an unmet need and that I would potentially invest in. There may be a problem if I had a significant amount of difference than my customer avatar. At the minimum, I should be able to relate to someone who has my need.

  1. Giovanna, I really admire your hard work on this post. You went above and beyond making the avatars and adding them to your blog post. I believe there is an unmet need when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle and recycling. I think this idea needs to be explored further because it is pertinent. Thank you for sharing, good job!
