10A - Elevator Pitch 1

This is my elevator pitch for sustainable architecture!

9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Who: Through my interviews I found a group of people that could fall outside the scope of my market. First it is people who don’t have thorough knowledge of sustainable architecture, and the second is people who don’t have the budget for it. Interviewer #2 from Fort. Lauderdale stated that he would only invest in something he knows would have a big impact, and he believes that sustainable architecture has very little impact. They fall outside the scope. In my interview #3 AND #4 stated that they would absolutely invest in sustainable architecture, but budget limits them. They would fall into the opportunity, but they have a limiting factor.  What: My need differs from other needs in the sense that it is still architecture and people have the need to build buildings, and so why not make it sustainable. Interviewer #5 said that if she easily found a sustainable architect that she liked and was not pricey she would go for it. So what I am gathering is that this opportunity is mor...

8A - Solving the Problem

Image
My product is to provide more sustainable alternatives to commonplace products to reduce climate change effects. My solution to decrease climate change is to have products and architecture with lower carbon emissions. This could be applied to governments, corporations, smaller businesses, and the common person; so everyone. The level of importance differs between the different sectors because of scalability (governments and big corporations could naturally have a larger impact by switching to sustainable buildings and products). Different solutions/products: From my interviews I found that the first important step to reduce climate change is to make more people actually aware of the problem. Most of my interviewees were not aware of the scale of climate change and the “close” effects it will have on us (most feel like it does not directly affect them yet). So a solution is to actually SPEAK UP and advocate for this problem. We don’t want big corporations, much less the government...

7A - Testing the Hypothesis Part 1

Sustainable buildings and products to reduce climate change. Opportunity: Climate change has become a more prevalent problem in our world, affecting our physical environment and now clearly apparent our economic society as well. Estimates by 2100 will have the U.S. GDP decrease by 10.5% and countries GDP follow suit.  The who: the common person and country governments The what: Climate change is speeding up and it is affecting common people and the government. As of right now there is not anything that could reverse climate change but there are sustainable practices that could greatly reduce its effects.  The why: Many practices are not sustainable and contribute to climate change. Governments need to focus on sustainability.  Testing the who: The whole world is affected by climate change. The U.S GDP could decrease by 10.5% by 2100, China decrease by 4.3% and the EU by 4.7% if we continue the route of climate increases by 0.04 degrees celsius (0.03 above ...

6A - Identifying Trends in Economic and Regulatory Trends

Opportunities Related to Regulatory Changes Cigarette sales banned at NYC pharmacies started in January 2019 https://www.amny.com/news/nyc-cigarette-pharmacy-1.25067935 NYC banned pharmacies from selling cigarettes and already had banned selling e-cigarettes in 2017. I believe an opportunity exists for alternative products to people who smoke. The prototypical customer are businesses who can come up with a product that could completely substitute tobacco products. I think this opportunity could be relatively hard to exploit because it means creating a complete alternative to tobacco/nicotine that people who previously relied on it would want to use. I think this opportunity exists because I know that this regulation could shift how many people smoke and how many people will want to change their methods. 5A - Identifying Local Opportunities

#1 Florida elementary school kids sent to ER after eating weed candy: by Cheryl S. Grant https://infoweb-newsbank-com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3AGSGB%21Gainesville%2BSun%252C%2BThe%2B%2528FL%2529/year%3A2019%212019/mody%3A0910%21September%2B10&f=advanced&format=text&docref=news/175E485A39BDC4D0 Nine elementary students in a Broward county school accidently took THC-infused candy. One of the students brought to school what looked like a popular sour candy and offered to friends, not knowing what it contained. The students complained of stomach pains and were under watch for a whole day. No life-threatening affects were noted. The problem: Children unknowingly eat weed candy because they thought it was normal candy. This created distress for them in their school, causing them to miss the rest of their studies. This also causes worries for families because they can’t control what their children receive food wise in school, and ...

4A - Forming an Opportunity Belief

Beginning point: I believe there is an opportunity for an app that notifies you of availability of study spaces in the university library. You should be able to connect to the library of choice, and through some alert system, it would tell you a range of availability, from low to high. Even better, it would be able to inform specific areas of location on different floors. Describe your belief: One of the things that irks me the most is going to study and realizing once I get into the library there are few spaces available. Then I have to spend my limited, stressful, time into looking for a seat rather than spend it effectively. Worse even is looking for a table for a group. The study room reservation system works very well as it helps people organize their time. Other than that, there is no system that alerts people of availability in libraries. I am 90% sure this opportunity exists.  I believe any student who wants to efficiently plan their study time would appreciate a...

3A - My Entrepreneurship Story

Image
As a child I would always help around in the kitchen. Help my mom make an elaborate chicken dish, or just rice, and “help” my dad barbeque (mostly watch because he was scared I would burn myself….). Eventually came the day when I made my first dish, a brownie, and I was elated. It wasn’t a package brownie, and it came out delicious. Surprised my whole family for sure. After that I started meddling more in the kitchen, making my breakfasts, then my dinners, then cooking dinner for the family. This was all around age 12. I would watch MasterChef and Cupcake Wars on loop, wanting to someday make it there, be on TV cooking my own recipes to be judged by renowned chefs. So, when I entered high school I had such a passion and desire to open my own restaurant. I would look at some flaws at restaurants I would go into and know I could do it differently. Prices were too high when competition is lower, bathroom is far and hidden, staff isn’t properly trained, etc. I would also draw inspirations...
